Ingredients:
For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) Tomato Sauce
- 2 tbsp Tomato paste
- 2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp All Purpose Seasoning
- 1 tsp Black pepper
- 1 tbsp Brown Sugar (optional)
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 small sweet pepper
For the Cheese Sauce:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup milk/heavy cream
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Layers:
- Lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
- Additional shredded mozzarella for topping
Directions:
-
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat.
-
Add chopped onion, sweet pepper and garlic (I chopped mine in a food processor); sauté until fragrant.
-
Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, garlic powder, all-purpose seasoning, brown sugar, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to incorporate.
- In a saucepan, add the milk/heavy cream to heat and then add the cheese to melt. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce will begin to thicken. Add a dash of salt and Black pepper to taste. Set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (190°C).
- In a baking dish, start with a layer of meat sauce, followed by lasagna noodles, and a generous drizzle of cheese sauce.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with a topping of shredded mozzarella.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Bonus Tip:
Feel free to add sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or any veggies of your choice to amp up the flavor and nutrition!
