Jamaican Green Plantain Porridge


Jamaican Green Plantain Porridge is a creamy and comforting porridge that is sure to satisfy your taste buds and keep you energized throughout the day. Ingredients:

 

2 Green plantains

1/2 cup Oatmeal

5 cups water

1 can Evaporated Milk

Condensed milk

2 teaspoon ground Cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground Nutmeg

1 tbsp Vanilla 

Pinch of salt

 

Optional toppings: ground cinnamon, grated nutmeg, or a sprinkle of brown sugar

 

Directions:

 

 

Peel the green plantains and cut them into small pieces.

 In a blender or food processor, combine the plantain pieces with 2 cups of water, 1 can of Evaporated milk and 1/2 cup Oatmeal. Blend until smooth.

 

In a large saucepan, Bring to boil 3 cups of water and add 2 teaspoon cinnamon and a pinch of salt to the water and combine. 

 

Now add the blended plantain mixture. Stir well to combine.

Place the saucepan over a low-medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and  lumps from forming. Use a whisk if possible as it would be ideal for preventing lumps. Allow to cook (with the pot half way covered with a lid) until the porridge becomes smooth and has thickened or for about 15-20 mins. Be sure to add more water if the consistency is too thick.

 

Reduce the heat to low and add as much condensed milk to sweeten (add sugar if you would like), ground nutmeg and the vanilla. Stir well to incorporate the ingredients.

 

Taste the porridge and adjust the sweetness or spices according to your preference.

 Once the porridge reaches your desired consistency, remove it from the heat.

 Serve right away. Optionally, sprinkle with ground cinnamon, grated nutmeg, or a sprinkle of brown sugar on top for added flavor.
