Jamaican Banana Fritters

A good way to use ripe Bananas is to make some delicious Banana Fritters! The taste of these are quite similar to Banana Bread but their textures are different. They can be eaten at any time of the day and is often consumed for Breakfast in Jamaica but can be eaten at anytime. These would make a perfect snack in my opinion.

Growing up my Grandmother made these the best offcourse. She would serve us these with a nice cup of hot Peppermint tea. She would pick up fresh Peppermint bush on her weekly trips to the local market located in downtown Jamaica and it was apart of our morning routines to have a hot cup of Peppermint tea with our breakfast. My grandmother swore hot tea could fix anything! Banana fritters are usually fried to golden perfection and served as soon as they come out the oil. Give these a try and thank me later!

Prep Time: 10 mins

Cook Time: 20 mins

Total Time:  30 mins

 Ingredients:

3 Bananas

1 cup All Purpose Flour

2-3 tbsp Brown Sugar (Optional)

1 tsp Cinnamon

1 tsp Nutmeg

1 tbsp Vanilla

Salt

Oil

 Directions:

In a bowl crush the Bananas using a fork or a potato masher.

Add the Sugar, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Vanilla, a pinch of Salt and combine.

Now add the flour and combine. If your batter appears too thick you can add no more than about 1tbsp of water to thin it out some. You don’t want the batter too thick or thin. It should easily slide off of a spoon.

Place a skillet over a medium-low heat with enough oil to coat the pot.

Once the oil is fully heated, spoon the mixture in using a large or deep spoon.

Fry until each side is golden brown. You may want to treat these like Plantains, I suggest to keep a close eye on them as they may burn quickly and easily if you use Brown Sugar. Try not to overcrowd your pot also and fry them in batches if needed also.

Remove the fritters from the pot and allow them to drain on a wire rack or paper towel to drain any excess oil.

Serve right away and enjoy!
